Brooke Moe joins the Historic St. Mary’s City team as the new Volunteer Coordinator after recently completing her Bachelor of Arts in History at Washington College on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. While an eager student with a passion for history, Brooke began volunteering at The Past is Present Public Archaeology Lab in Chestertown Maryland, run by Director Elizabeth Seidel. There, Ms. Moe fell in love with the world of Archeology while logging countless volunteer hours in the lab. She is an avid potter in her free time and belongs to the River Arts Clay Studio as a consistent volunteer in Chestertown Maryland.
Volunteering has been a big part of her life, specifically during her college years; this is when Brooke truly began to value the selfless work of volunteers. At the clay studio, Brooke learned the importance of fostering a strong sense of community amongst volunteers to instill a truer sense of pride and purpose. At the archaeology lab, she observed how the Director, Elizabeth Seidel, made learning easy and fun; creating an environment where every question was valued and volunteers felt included and cared for. As the Volunteer Coordinator at HSMC, Ms. Moe would like to take what she has learned from these two organizations and implement them into a new program. She aims to create a pool of active and dedicated volunteers, instilling a sense of pride, purpose, inclusivity, and community in the volunteers daily.
