Not only are the paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries visually pleasing, but they also provide a wealth of information that historians can analyze and learn from. One such artist is John White, whom HSMC often studies and interprets. White traveled to modern-day North Carolina in the 1580s to document the environment and native culture through his watercolor paintings. This watercolor workshop aims to unleash your inner artist and inspire you to create your own masterpiece using White’s work as a reference. You can choose to replicate one of his paintings or use the environment to find your own unique subject, using both modern and traditional pigments.
