HSMC recognized for Maryland’s Best Use of Social Media
40th Annual Tourism Awards during recent three-day annual summit in Maryland LIVE!
Historic St. Mary’s City in St. Mary’s, Md. was recently honored at the annual Maryland Tourism Awards Ceremony of the 40th Annual Maryland Tourism & Travel Summit. Held November 8-10 at the Live! Casino and Hotel Maryland, the summit was sponsored and managed by the Maryland Tourism Coalition, and drew together some of the state’s top tourism industry professionals.
HSMC received an award for the “Best Use of Social Media” for their work over 2020. With the onset of state closures (including the outdoor museum), Sharol Yeatman, External Relations Manager, quickly pivoted to share positive and educational posts across the museum’s social media channels. Working from home, Sharol used her creativity to stay within the museum’s scope and encourage families to explore nature and make crafts with found items. Through the closure and eventual re-opening in June of that same year, Sharol used a mixture of short videos and graphics to bring engaging posts.
For more than 50 years, the Maryland Tourism Coalition has brought together the tourism industry to enhance business growth and to promote the development of Maryland tourism. The Maryland Tourism Coalition is the only statewide membership association representing all segments of the hospitality and tourism industry, emphasizing government affairs, business growth, professional development, and alliances with other tourism organizations, the business community, and state and local governments.
Historic St. Mary’s City is an outdoor museum of living history and archaeology, dedicated to telling the diverse stories of this land now called Maryland.
